"HI I was jump starting my 318

"HI I was jump starting my 318 in my boat with my truck parked next to it after I got is started I disconnected then the larger wire that connects to the voltage regulator Via a female spade connector started to smoke and burn up. What gives did I burn it out?

"is 13.88 volts too much for this system? It still charges normally. When I start the engine I still have to rev it up a little to get it to start charging them it will charge at idle.
