RPM OR HPTORQUE

Im going to be rebuilding a en

Im going to be rebuilding a engine for my SRV200 SEARAY. It presently has a OMC Inline 6 165hp.
I got my hands on a chevy 230 Truck engine. I think the block is the same as a 250 cid 165hp marine engine. If I rebuild it as a 230 cid it will have 200 more rpm's but 15 hp less than a 250 cid.
My qestion is do we need more HP/Torque & less RPM's or More RPM'S & less HP/Torque to make a boat go faster? And if your in a storm/Wind would you then want all the HP/Torque you can get? Would like to understand it?

"Before you get Too excited about the 230,....

Make Sure that the required Mounting Holes are On the Block for your Front Motor Mount.....

Many blocks Don't have those Holes......

Btw,.....
A Smaller motor will make Less Power......
There Won't be More rpms, with Less Horsepower.....
And,.......
Horsepower is just a mathematical equation of Torque,+ RPMs......"

So Bondo if I understand You?

So Bondo if I understand You?
Go with the 250 Cid Build for more HP & Torque?
And Yes I knew about the many blocks dont have the FWD mounting holes. Matter of fact that was the very first thing I look at befor I loaded it in the back of my truck.
Any more advice befor I do the Build?

The 250 is the Best Choice.....
Bigger is Always Better with these smaller motors....

A 292 will also Fit in there, with only a few Fitment cncerns.....
The block is taller, but the Manifolds fit....."

Thanks Bondo!
A Chevy 292? En

Thanks Bondo!
A Chevy 292? Engine wont be to much for a Mercruiser 165 MR Outdrive to handle?
If my drive could handle the HP/Torque from a 292. That would be the best choice for more power. I have lots of room on a SeaRay SRV200.
Has anyone used a 292 for a marine motor?

"Your dive was mated to the 26

"Your dive was mated to the 260hp, 350 back in it's day,....
'course, it had a different Ratio,... But it's Still the Same drive.....

I Think Merc. used the 292 for a few motors,... But I'm not Sure of that....
And, I don't know What they rated the HP at....."

"Hi Bondo
I did not Know that

"Hi Bondo
I did not Know that the drive housing could handle a 350? I trailer the boat, it is very heavy Hull.
So I want a lite engine with good HP installed.
As for the 292 I think it would put out around 180HP. Again Thank YOU!"

"If ya could Find 1 of those 4

"If ya could Find 1 of those 4bbl. manifolds for it,...
You might approach 200hp.......

Doing the V8 Swap would be Foolhearty,....
Too much would need Swapping,+ the Co$t$ would be Prohibitive....."

As far as manifolds go you can

As far as manifolds go you can get them from Clifford @ cliffordperformance.net. they have a lot of 6 cyl performace parts.
