THE PROPER MIXTURE IS

" JOHN.
THE PROPER MIXTURE IS 16:1. TWICE AS MUCH OIL AS WHAT YOU ARE USING NOW. COINCIDENTALLY I JUST REBUILT ONE OF THESE. PUT IN NEW PISTON RINGS, ALL THE GASKETS, IMPELLER, OIL SEALS IN LOWER UNIT, AND COILS. LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYTHING.

Check those ignition coils by

Check those ignition coils by removing them and checking for cracks and a hole where the spark has been going to ground. Quite common on older OMC motors. The spark must jump at least a 1/4" laying a plug on the block is a waste of time.
