"My 75hp Evinrude smokes like crazy when I troll at just above idle speed. The fuel mix is 40:1. Is there anything I can do to fix this, like change the premix ratio ? Dont want to bugger the engine its been a old friend for many years.

What is the model number on your motor?40:1 oil ratio is wrong it is either 50:1 if it is newer than 1965 or 24:1 if older.Is the thermoatat warming your motor up at idle [143*]? what grade gas are you using? Mid grade[89octane] is accaptable.Zeke

thanks for the tips. The motor is a 1978 75 hp Evinrude. I use a premix 91 octane. 96 octane is available.

Im gonna check the other things out.

" i got a 1978 85hp evinrude and troll all day long. it also smokes but, we lean out 1 tank 75:1. that helps the smoke and also helps it from loading up. we don't run it wide open on that tank though. "
