" If I am going to build up twin V8 gm engines, and the reverse rotation engine presently has a timing gear set; For performance, durability wise, should I make the standard rotation engine also a gear set? What are the pros and cons?
Thanks. "

" I'd use a top quality roller chain timing set on the LH engine. There are aftermarket gear sets for GM V8's, but they vary in quality and are really hotrodding items, using one or two idler gears between the crank and cam gears.

The best gear sets, properly installed, do provide slightly better timing accuracy than chains, but this is very dependent on the quality of the gears. They're pretty pricey, too.

A good quality chain timing set should be very durable and give good performance. "

"Well,.........

The Problem here with your Thought Process is;

The Timing Chain on the Lefthand motor keeps the Cam turning in the Proper Direction...........

The Timing GEARS on the Righthanded motor,..... Keep the Cam running in the Proper Direction.......

With Chevies,.... The Crankshaft turns in the Opposite Direction,........
The Cam,...... Always turns the Same Way,.......

So,..... This is Really Not an Option that you can Change.........."
