1991 15hp johnson idle problem

" my engine starts right up fi

" my engine starts right up first pull everytime. i always warm it up about 10 min before leaving to fish. starts great at boat ramp idles good, i drive 10- 15 min. fast and slow to fishing spot.when i go to restart it wont hold an idle takes alot to get started again then will run great at high speeds and stall when i go to idle.I checked fuel filter it is clean. this has happened 3 trips in a row. please any info would be great.(first time boat owner) "
 
Always do a compression test

Always do a compression test as the first step in trouble shooting. Check to make sure the spark will jump at least 5/16" in free air. Remove carburetor and look for broken or chipped reed valve. Remove carburetor bowl and look for dirt and gum in jets. IT may have a wee plastic fuel feed tube for the idle circuit wich does not stand the test of time.
