" I just picked up a 1978 Evin

" I just picked up a 1978 Evinrude MDL 35803 35HP,
the owners manual calls for Champion L78V plugs. The plugs that came with the motor are L77JC4. I did find reference to the use of that plug in the owners manual for "special operating conditions" no further explanation. I have no experience with surface gapped plugs (L78V) and would like feedback on pros and cons for using them.
Thanks,
Bob "

"Bob..... The surface gap s/pl

"Bob..... The surface gap s/plugs, regardless of their heat range number/status, really have no heat range to speak of. This results in early fouling problems in many engines.

I've found it better to use either the QL77JC4 or the L77JC4 Champion s/plugs with the gap set to .040 . The "Q" indicates a resistor plug which helps quiet noise that would radiate from the engine into any electronic equipment.

"Bob.... No, I moved to central west Florida (near Tampa) back in 1977. Clue me in as to who you are and how do you know I lived in NJ, but do it via e-mail. [email protected]
