1990 Yamaha Prov 150 jumps back on forth from 4600 to 5000 RPM.

It almost stalls at take off but once it planes out it will get up to 4600 RPM and will jump up to 5000 RPM and may even run a 5300 RPM for a few second then back down to a constant 4600 RPM with the accelerator (hot foot) fully depressed.

Any ideals ???
 
" You should be able to get 55

" You should be able to get 5500 rpms out of this engine with the right propellor. I would tune the engine up to eliminate a few possible causes. Install new plugs if you didnt already. tear down carbs and clean. Invest in a shop manual. Check your fuel system(hoses, filter screen and fuel tank). Hope this helps.
