Just bought it used. Fired briefly twice in 2 hours of diagnostic work. Compression in both cylinders is 125 pounds. Spark good. Fuel appears OK. Neutral switch appears to be working. Clymer shop manual troubleshooting showed a "defective solonoid" condition with test light test to small bottom terminal on right side of solonoid (terminal next to larger positive lead terminal)
Not sure what's going on. Needed an opinion before replacing parts.

"Doug..... Are you saying that the engine cranks over with the electric starter but that it will not run? If so, the starter solenoid has nothing to do with your problem as that would have to be functioning properly in order to engage the electric starter.

If you have compression and spark as you state, I would strongly suspect that the carburetor is fouled and that it will require cleaning and rebuilding.

" You are right on with the carb diagnosis. Got it to start by removing fuel line and one quick shot of starter fluid. When I hooked up the fuel line and restarted it ran and eventually flooded out with gas dripping from the air damper housing. With damper housing removed noticed fuel shooting from top left hole in top of carb which is not a screw mount hole.

How to proceed? Disassemble and clean carb and put back, or rebuild? Do you suspect a float problem? "
