" My SELOC manual says to "verify each magnet has good magnetism by using a screwdriver or other tool".I assume the magnets are the 2 projections in the center and on the underside of the flywheel. Are they BOTH supposed to be magnetized?Only one of mine is.Could that be the cause of a weak spark and the motor not starting? It is a 1969 Johnson 40 HP (40EL 69R).
Thanks,
Gordon "

Magnets rarely cause a problem. Remove the coils examine them and have them tested. Some of these manuals are full of information to impress those that do not know the facts. The coils are notorious for cracks that cause ignition failure.

How do you test the coils?
