"Can you move the motor by removing the tilt tube instead of unbolting the motor from the transom .. I have an 89 110 johnson. to get to the transom bolt is a real pain,

Ive never used that method but I believe if you trim up the motor to its full up position. suspend it with a hoist or similar. Remove the pin that attaches the trim cylinder to the motor. Then hit the trim till the trim and tilt rams retract. Carefully lower the motor manually.
Then you should be able to attach a hoist or similar then remove the tilt tube. The motor should then come free. What are you trying to do with it anyway because this method doesn t achieve very much appart from removing the majority of the motor off the boat. If its a service procedure there must be a better way unless you are doing a tilt tube or the tilt tube bushes.
