I had a hard time removing the flywheel off of my 1969 Johnson(#40EL-69R).When I put it back together what can I do so it won't be so hard the next time?Is it O.K.to use an antisieze compound?

"Gordon...... DO NOT use anything on the crankshaft or flywheel taper. That would cause the flywheel key to shear which in turn would allow the flywheel to spin on the crankshaft. This would cause damage to both tapers. Clean both tapers with acetone to make sure that there is no grease etc, then torque the flywheel nut to exactly 105 foot pounds.

Failure to torque the flywheel nut properly will also cause the flywheel key to shear.

" Gordon;
Joe is correct the tapers must be super clean and the flywheel nut torqued to 105 ftlbs,think of that flywheel as a 4500rpm frisbee with teeth !! jupiterzeke "

" I have a 1960 18 hp Evinrude Fastwin, model# 15032, that needs a crankshaft due to taper damage. Is a crankshaft and flywheel from a model# 15020 interchangeable (I believe it's a 1957 model)? "
