"Does anyone know the difference between marine 85w90 gear lube and automotive 85w90 gear lube? I was thinking of switching to Valvoline's semi-synthetic (API GL-4). I change it twice a season, fresh water, Bravo 1."

And the Merc. Hi-Performance,.... Which is a Full-Syn oil.......

Mercruiser lube is 11 bucks a quart here. I'd rather pay a lot less. How much is valvoline synthetic? The merc oil seems a lot thinner than 85W-90 or whatever. It seems like 10W30 to me.

I've always used the synthetic. Checked the temps on the top head plate of the drive on a Bravo 1 and it lowered the temps by 10% !!!
