" Anybody come across this problem?
I have a early vro 70hp evinrude which has been serviced by a mechanic and had the spark plugs, water impeller and water thermostat changed.
I have only had the boat and motor a few months and we found the thermostat had been drilled out.
this was making it run a little rough at idle.
Now after it was serviced it idles well and proforms great when run below 3000 revs or above
4500 revs. If you run for longer then 1 minute in between these revs the temp alarm goes off.
I tested the water thermostat in a pan of water and found it to start opening at 161F . I replaced the thermostat with another omc one and found this to do the same.
The temp of the casing near the alarm thermostat is 170F when the alarm goes off.
I have plenty of water coming out of the tracer(pee hole) at all revs.
I have run the boat at 5750 revs for 15 minutes with no alarm.
The engine block has been flushed and is clean and clear off any obstructions.
I have two questions.
What temp should the alarm go off at?
The water thermostat is held against rubber seat by a spring, can the water push the thermo off it's seat to let more water flow at high revs.
If so I might have the wrong spring holding the thermostat.
Any help will be greatly received.
