" I have rencently gotten hook

" I have rencently gotten hooked into restoring some old outboards. The one in ? is a '64 3.5hp elgin. I tore everything down and cleaned it up including carb. Problem- in order to start the engine, I have to pour a small amount of gas into the cylinder and then reinstall the plug. One pull and she runs like a top! The engine will continue to run without any problems. I can stop it and restart without a problem. However, if I leave it alone for a while, I can't start it again unless I add the fuel to the cylinder. What's up with this? It obviously gets fuel to run for as long as I want once started.

thanks!

"John.... If the choke is work

"John.... If the choke is working properly on that engine, you've overlooked something on that carburetor. The engine starts initially with fuel being pulled into the cylinder via the slow speed suction of the carburetor. It wouldn't take but a small item interfering with that passageway to present a problem such as you mention.
