" I have an older 40 hp.I think it is mid 60's to early 70's,how do I tell?Serial + model #'s ?Anyways it is getting gas to the float bowl but will not start but if I pour gas directly into the throat of the carb it will start and run till that little bit of fuel is used up.Is it the float or sometyhing in the carb?I would really like to get it going again,the catfish are calling my name.
p.s. I put all new fuel lines on it last year. "

"Mike.... The Model # is the one that designates the year. Let us know what that number is and we'll get back to you pronto. The problem that you define is that your carburetor is either completely clogged/fouled, or/and the float level needle valve is jammed shut due to gum, varnish, corossion, etc. At any rate, It's time to remove the carb, clean it thoroughly and rebuilt it as needed.
