VRO Johnson 115 (J115PXST)

My Johnson 115 (J115PXST) seems to smoke excessively at idle but runs fine at mid to upper RPM ranges (no smoke) and the plugs look clean with no fouling. My friends say my VRO has gone bad but don't worry, a little excess oil is OK. Articles seem to indicate, the VRO is very reliable and no oil is a sign of VRO malfunction rather than excess oil at idle. That excess oil is a sign of some other problem -- vacuum leak, gas leak, etc.
Anyone know the real story with VRO's?

Brian

Did your " friends " suggest doing a performance test on the VRO ?----Have you tested the VRO alarm module for " NO OIL OUTPUT " ??------This test involves seeing how much oil is being pumped by the VRO.----A factory manual outlines this procedure.

Sorry I came in late on this one, but I have found that good VRO's have been faulted by poorly designed caps on the oil reservoir. I remove the little check valve/ breather inside the cap and pop it back together. I will tell you that the tank can otherwise build pressure and push excessive oil into the system. I'm gonna check my photos and post the problem parts to be removed.
Look at the oil that was pushed into the carbs here.

Thanks much, I'll give it a try and see what happens ..... hope it works. Not necessarily a big problem, I just like things working the way are designed and intended.
Thanks again ..... B. Berger

These aftermarket plastic fuel tanks are ridiculous too. They don't vent....blow up and pressure the fuel system to it's limits....and beyond. This is a BRAND NEW TANK here.
Does anyone know why sometimes attached photos are turned 90 degrees? Dah! Makes me look like a fool.....or maybe MORE of a fool!
