2018 Mercury 300 Verado - acceleration issues

I have a 2018 Mercury Verado 300 HP that's been having some strange acceleration issues, it's like it's over slipping and the RPMs maxing out but it eventually catches and gets to speed. If I hold the trim switch down and accelerate, it seems to not over rev and gets to speed normally. This is on a 25 foot Regency pontoon with 25 hours. I also see intermittent temp over heating then comes down to the normal range. It's only an issue when going at fast speeds so I might just wait until after the season to take it in.
 
If you prop has vent plugs make sure none are missing.....


As for the over heat, make sure your engine is mounted low enough and not sucking in surface air at higher speeds. This will damage your power head if it is the case.
