Hello all....
I recently purchased a used 22 foot Cape Craft with a large walk in center console. It has a 2001 Carbureted 150 on the back. The boat alone weighs around 2700lbs. It has a 70 gallon tank. Should this motor be enough? It takes a long time to plane.....sometimes I back off the throttle because it’s not getting up...around 15 seconds or more. When it does get up, it gets to about 30 max at wot (around 5700 rpm) with a 15x17 stainless mirage plus. To me, it seems like a low speed for a 15x17 and it takes too long to get up. The hull is clean, no barnacles or other sea life. Should this engine be enough?

Yes. Try shifting weight forward, tucking the lower unit in on plane off, and'or less pitch.

My boat came with a 21 pitch prop, but I run her with a 19; planes off easier, especially with a load, and gets about the same cruising speed.
