115 mercury 6cyl. Tower

I’ve got A 1985 115 6 cyl. Tower of power. On A 16’ skeeter.
the problem is little or no spark. So won’t start. How do I trace the problem? I don’t know if it’s the stator or the triggers or the CDI boxes. It has the original stator in it. I’m thinking that’s the issue but I don’t want to order parts I don’t need. Any help or info would be great.
 
Yes that is a very common reply.-------So I change my style here.----I have a few of those inline 6 motors.-----With 2 new switch boxes they just start easy.
 
Buy/ borrow a VDA meter and see what's going on at each terminal. That will tell you immediately what's wrong. CDI posts a troubleshooting page for your motor that tells you what to expect, and it can be done at cranking over, not running.

PS: If you have a good DC ammeter, you can purchase an adapter on Amazon for it for under 30 bucks.
