overheating at idle only

I have a 1994 Force 120 that overheats at idle. Once I get the rpms up, it's fine. If I am in a long no wake zone, the alarm goes off. I've replaced the impeller and thermostat. Have ordered the temp sensor to replace it. Am I missing anything?

Try using a infrared temp gun.

The impeller was it in one piece when removed? Any missing blades?
The housing, was the wear plate and seal ok?

Remove the sensor and clean the base and where it contacts the block.
The thermo was it corroded or dirty?
Any sand or crud?

The AZ in your name? Arizona? Then salt corrosion shouldn't be a problem but sand could be?

Inspected the thermo sensor and it looks new...no corrosion or sand or anything. The old impeller was in good shape, no pieces missing. When I took out the thermostat, I put a water hose to the hole in the motor and blew water out the lower unit trying to discharge any possible crud in there. I will try re-installing the impeller and inspecting to see if the key isn't correct and the shaft is spinning faster than he impeller. And I will give the housing a closer inspection.
