Convert Mercury 6hp to Mercury 9.9 Carburetor

I bought a RIB with a 2003 6hp Mercury 6M model 2 stroke,2 cylinder engine. Can a carburetor from a 9.9 Mercury 2 stroke be bolted on or is it too much for the 6hp? The 9.9 block has a larger displacement. I have seen the 9.9 carbs and they look identical externally with my 6hp carb. The exhaust plate is the same with no tube extension and I have a smaller jet from a 8hp.
