Installing teleflex cable on a safe t helm

Finishing up restoring a 58 whaler, and having problems with the teleflex. New cable, I push it into housing til I hear a snap, then install the pin parallel with the cable in that tiny hole, and when I turn the steering wheel it pops right out. Am I missing something here? I thought it was all set, turned back and forth fine while the enigine was down, then when the engine was up I tried to swing it over to give myself some space, and thats when it popped back out. It does not have the tilt tube, but a swivel bracket on the inside of transom.
Im partially wondering if the extra tension from the engine up forced it out, but it still seems like it popped out really easy, and every other engine I've worked on could be rotated while up.

Ok, re-set it... seems to be ok, maybe wasn't fully set, splash test tomorrow after work. 2 year restoration project w this whaleR, for $500, boat, motor, and trailer, even my wife said buy it.
