1989 Mariner 20 - assistance needed to replace prop shaft seals

Hello everyone.....got a question for the forum.

My father in law has asked me to replace the prop shaft seals on his Mariner 20hp (S/N 0B386629). He said that it's dripping oil on his garage floor when it sits....not a lot, but enough that he has to top it off a few times over the course of the year.

Based on what I've been able to find online, it's a 1989 model. The local repair shops told him that a special tool was needed for the service, which they didn't want to buy, since it's an older motor, and it's not something they'll realistically use more than once.

So, he's basically on his own to fix it, which is why he asked me for help.....

I've built and worked on cars for many years, but I've not done much of anything on outboards. I found an exploded view with the various part numbers, but I can't find anything on how to remove the seals / gear carrier.

Does anyone have experience replacing the shaft seals on this motor, and could maybe give me some specifics on the tool needed / steps to remove the carrier after the prop is off?

Thanks in advance.....
