hello, thanks for looking.

I have a Honda bf8, year 1997. starts good, idles good, sounds great. the problem I have is when it warms up to operating temp I hear a pinging noise, pre detonation I believe, but I cant be certain. the sound is not there until it warms up. I can lower the rpm's and it will go away, the faster I go the worse it gets.

just looking for a place to start.
timing?
carbon deposits?
ignition?

What quality gas are you using? Although, that's a reach...it's on the list for something like this. Make sure the engine is timed correctly. If it has jumped and gone advanced on you then detonation might be occurring.

Other than that, a big carbon buildup in the combustion chamber MIGHT cause a noise if contact is taking place.

I've had a few that made a "RING A DING A DING" noise and it turned out to be the crankshaft end nut under the flywheel had backed off.

That's all I got...Good luck.

I believe that I solved my problem, I gapped the plugs to the minimum 0.6mm.
test ran motor after that and cannot hear the noise anymore.
thanks for the help everybody.
