I have twin 2001 Evinrude 70 hp and want opinions as to whether you tow just resting the motor tilted down to make contact with the hydraulic rams or do you tilt up so the lock is engaged about horizontal?

If you have the clearance it's better to trailer down - there is less stress on the transom. If you must trailer with engines raised, it's best to use an outboard brace to prevent the motors from bouncing and turning.

i have been using this for about 4 years....i went to it because i could not find a regular transom saver that would fit good between the fins etc on a new merc..broke two of them and was afraid i was going to eventually damage the motor..am happy with it...i think you have to have power trim to use it though to lock it in place..the motor will still pivot though but i found out if u just go ahead and turn it to one extreme then it will be solid as a rock on the hwy....

Thanks for the link. Wound up using a 2x4 for this trip. I think a m-ywedge is in my future...
