4 hp wont stop/ can shut off

Ok i just got a 1972ish merc 4 hp
I got it up and running good and tuned in
my problem is how do you shut it off
theres no kill botton like my 6 hp
the tiller handle stops were it says shift
is there something under flywheel that shorts ignition out when you back it all the way down
right know Im just unpluging the fuel line and letting it run out gas
 
That's good, for the kill switch on Phase Maker ignition system on Mercs (like yours) destroys the stators. The twins with this ignition system--and a kill switch--suffer regular stator damage.

You have two options: Readjust the idle speed setting so it will stall if you throttle down all the way, or slip the choke on.

Those are such great little motors they even changed my stubborn mind on single cylinder motors.
