I have a 1950s Spiegel Brooklure 500 model 230-51-5s outboard motor. The name plate says to “keep gear housing filled with outboard grease” NOT oil. I’ve read on the internet that older outboards use grease not oil.
So what type of grease do I use? And is anyone familiar with this model and can I use gear oil or should I follow the label and use grease. [I read the oil will not work because the unit designed for grease don’t have seals??]
Also, what is the procedure to add this grease.
