Transom repair

last winter a branch fell on my boat, ripped my cover and damaged the top of the transom.
this is 14 FT. fiberglass boat. the transom of course is a laminated wood covered with fiberglass.
over the winter water seeped into the top layer of the exposed wood transom.
i injected a construction adhesive into the cavities, making sure it was good and dry, and clamped it
i plan to mount a 9.9 outboard to the transom.
as a precaution, im thinking of 'sandwiching" the transom with 1/4' aluminum plate.
for extra strength.
does anyone think that its necessary. and any other methods would be appreciated or comments.

thanks,
Rick
