Mercury 8hp throttle issue

I have a Merc 8hp - 2006 ME 8 M . Its been sitting idle for 4 or so months ( Aussie summer ). I made up a fresh lot of fuel and it took a little while to kick over but it ran ok. Once i go past half throttle it stops, either in neutral or in gear. The plugs are fine, fuel is going through the fuel filter no problem. Any ideas please ?
 
Did you use a fuel preservative or run the carb dry before you put it away? If you can find Seafoam (google it) or a similar product then run the engine w/fuel line disconnected until the carb is dry. Then remove the fuel inlet hose and fill the carb w/the cleaner and let it sit overnight. Run it the next day and it should respond better.
