What year is my 35hp Johnson

Hello.

Have just brugt a boat that came with a 3 cylinder 2 stroke Johnson. But cańt figure out which year it is.
The only number I have is from a plug which is : G3986989

Any help is appreciated :)

Serial # does not help ---Model # is required.----------They only made the motor from 1996 to 2001.-To me it looks to be a 98 model.-------Step # on those is to take the oil ijection off and throw it away as far as you can.---Mix oil and gas at 50:1 yourself.----Very good / heavy duty motors.-----There have been problems with clutch dogs breaking I believe.
