I'm thinking about buying an old Johnson outboard.

Looking at a Johnson Outboard for my old MacGregor Venture 22. The ad says it's a 9.9hp long shaft and that it runs very well. It says the serial number is 979873. The price is right but it's a four hour drive and I want to make sure I have all the info I can get on it before I make the drive. I'm particularly interested in the shaft length and the use fresh and salt water.

Any info?

This motor clearly is not a 9.9 HP model as it has a built in tank.-----You need to get more information / more pictures with hood off to identify that one.----------Model # is required as a serial # does not help here.
 
Smaller !-----I have some 40 years experience and that motor does not appear to be a 9.9 Johnson to me !--------Get more pictures / information before handing over some cash.
