Fuel pump problems... I assume that my fuel pump is bad. The engine runs great as long as I pump the fuel bulb. It then loses prime(bulb not hard) and dies. I have new batteries, new fuel and oil, and have isolated the "bad fuel" issues by running fuel line off a five gallon tank. Same symptoms. As long as I continue to pump the bulb the boat runs great! Can I assume this is a fuel pump problem or can you think of anything else? I think there is a lift pump and a fuel pump. How do I diagnose this?
 
Sounds like the fuel lift pump as they had probs with them back in those days. Disconnect the out line from it, start the mtr up and see if you get any fuel out it. They do make a kit to repair it.
