Im sure this is a frequent question, but I am new to boats and not sure what it can be. I have ordered a OEM manual and carb. rebuild kit and wanting to get any ideas from you guys. Ill give you a little back ground. I bought a 2009 15ft Alumicraft with a 1980 Johnson 25hp Model No. 25TECSA for a little of nothing from a guy that I really trust without hearing the boat run. (First mistake I guess) When I got it home and took off the cowling I noticed the starter and selenoid were not connected so I hooked it back up and the selenoid is bad (got one ordered) using jumper cables I jump the starter but cant get it to start.
After cleaning the carb best I could with just carb cleaner for now, I noticed there is no spark by taking out the spark plug out a checking for spark against the block but everynow and then it will "backfire" how do I check the coils and/or power pack?
If all else fails I will have to bite the bullet and bring it to the profesionals to diagnose.
