Hi, I also need to select the correct prop for my motor. Mercury Black Max, 175HP, V6. Smallish speed boat, 16foot or so. 1979 model motor. I know how to select the prop, I have read all the threads, but does anyone know a good pitch to start off with for the above boat, just more or less? Thanks.

That's a lot of power on 16' or 17' speedboat. I have a 17' Shakespeare and the max recommended HP is 115HP.Saying that,I know of people who have 150HP on similar size boats. But they are race boats. There may be a plate on the boat stating the max recommended HP
If you are going to put this much weight,I would estimate 350lbs,and power on 16' or 17', then I suggest start with 14"x23P,and before you head out, make sure your life insurance is up to date:D
All joking aside,if you give her throttle, with that amount of weight and HP on the transom, there's a good chance she will porpoise. If the transom isn't ripped off
