140hp V4 1989. Have tested compression.130psi all cylinders.Cyl seem oily is there any adjustment in fuel/oil metering pump.:(

Have disconnected VRO and run on 50-1 fuel mix.I think this has fixed the problem.Maybe Evinrude should look at an adjustable VRO unit.

The E-TEC is a new family of motors that are computer controlled.-----Not a gadget that can be adapted to an older motor,---------Is your V-4 equipped with the thermostats ??----Are they working properly ??------It is not uncommon for folks to remove them for some reason , and a cool running motor may show oily plugs.-----------The VRO is actually quite a good unit , no need for it to be adjustable at all.----The factory manual has a procedure to check oil output.--It is the responsibility of the owner to maintain this automatic piece of equipment.

Hi All, Thank U all for your input. I have decided that the 140 can go to rest. Will up grade with a 4stroke.Which are very reliable & work well in NZ waters.
