Wiring Engine Hour Meter

:confused: I want to add an hour meter. Both my tach which is hooked up and functioning and the hour meter to be installed have male positive and negative spade terminals. Being sure to maintain polarity, couldn't I just wire jumpers from the tach to the hour meter? That way the hour meter would only be powered when the outboard is running...I think. At any rate, I'm not confident enough to proceed without first asking for advice. Thanks for any assistance!
 
Yes you can connect it to the 12V lead going to the tach. However the hour meter will work as long as the key is turned on.
