As some of you may remember, late last summer I aquired a 1956 Evinrude 3hp that had been idle for over 30 years. It was loose and put away dry. Other than usual stuff, a carb rebuild, impeller, coils, and flushing the lower unit 4 times (oil had lumps in it) the fuel filter was plugged about 1/2 way up. Picked up a used one (it is plugged about 1/2" to 5/8" from base) and soaked it in carb cleaner etc and probably cleaned to good part up nicely. I dumped a can of Seafoam in empty tank this winter hoping that by spring it will dissolve the remaining varnish that plugs the filter. Other than the filter issue this little motor runs like a champ. If push comes to shove I can always buy a new filter from this site, but the cost $40 + is more than I give for the motor, although it is my last resort. Do you think the Seafoam work or not?

If it doesn't, cut the filter off the valve, and put an inline filter in the line from the tank to the carb.
