How to remove steering cable from engine

Ayuh,.... Does the aft end of the cable go through the motor's tilt tube,..??

If so, that's no doubt where it's seized...

Take whatever hardware there is off the end, 'n the big nut off the other side,...
Then Beat it out...
 
Careful and cautious use of a torch can be of benefit but you need to be very diligent as there's a huge potential for fire if you aren't careful.
 
I have the same problem with a Mercury, the cable is clearly stuck in the tilt tube. Do I hear that hammer and heat are the cure? Will mushrooming the end make it worse?
