johnson lower unit lube

Just use an outboard gear oil.-------Parts are too expensive to look for a cheap alternative.------Most boat dealers will have the correct stuff.----Wally Mart ( China Mart ) has it on shelves as well.

Make sure it's for marine useage. Not something you'd use in your auto or truck.

i have a johnson 7.5 1982, what type of lower unit lube sre you guys using? thanks:confused:

That would be the gearcase lube called "HiVis" 80/90w. No doubt available on this site, also available at Wal*Mart, K-Mart, your dealership, various marine stores, etc. This is the specific gearlube to be used with manual shift engines and also with smaller engines that are non shifting.

Regardless of the brand name, the notice of "HiVis" will be printed somewhere on the container.

DO NOT use a gearlube that is specified for electric shift engines!
