head gasket

I removed the head from my 1974, 4 horse Johnson to re-thread a spark plug hole. The old gasket is REALLY stuck to the head, what is the best way to remove it? Thanks.
 
Paint stripper with a brush.........gasket is eaten away.............a few hours then clean up surfaces for new gasket or another dose till all easily pealed away. Make sure head is flat. No abrasives and or power tools should be used to remove old gaskets........EVER.

Figure 8 as previous. Check with feeler guage on the same glass plate for flatness.

Wear gloves.
