Shift/throttle

I have a 115 h.p. 2005 2 stroke Johnson that requires a lot of push/pressure to shift from neutral to forward or reverse on the remote throttle box. Throttle works fine afterwards. Could the problem be in the remote or the cable?

For the answer to that question, simply disconnect the shift cable from the engine momentarily. If the cable now moves freely, the problem is usually that the cable trunions are adjusted too tightly at the engine clamping area. This situation causes one cable to be fighting the other cable.

If still stiff, suspect the cable.

I've encountered this a few times... the problem has never been, nor do I see how it could be a problem within the control box.

I will try your advice. Since posting my situation, someone told me that there are new cables for Johnson/Evinrude that are much better than the original. What are your thoughts? Know where I can get them? Thanks!
