Hi all, new to boating. I have the above listed motor however even with a (year) specific manual from "selco" I am am asked " mechanical or non-mechanical shift" and it lists (type I through IV and higher.

Model: FD 17B
S/N: 2373472

I believe the (jumping) out of gear is a "lower unit" problem, as the (bell crank) seems to be ok.

This question is more out of curiosity cause I'm going to drop the (lower unit) anyway, however their reference to the (type) is bothering me.

It is a (split) lower end, not solid, but thats all I know.

Your help is appreciated,

Have a great thanksgiving day,

Thanks for the info.. To tell you the truth I just got this gem from a friend and he is the one that mentioned the (jumbing) out of gear. There were no further specifics.

I have (held) the shift rod stationary w/ pliers and tried to shift gears w/the shifter and it all seems tight right down to the Prop..

Great idea on the (impeller), thanks.

I remember telling my Son everytime he changed an auto's engine on his cars/trucks to (replace) the "rear" seal, but what do I know.................except guess what he tells (his) Son, so not all is lost.

Again, thanks for time/info..
