Shifting Causes Noise and Blinking Lights

Our 2000 DT115 has approximately 280 hours on it, and recently started making a loud metallic clanking noise when shifting into forward and reverse. I also noticed it makes the dash lights blink momentarily when I shift. Any idea what could be causing this?

Better adjust the shift cables or your going to wear out the lower unit clutch dog

Tighten the battery cables also
