Have a 2003 Honda 130, the only thing that works on it is the power trim button on the engine, the key stitch does nothing, the trim on the throttle does nothing, the trim on the bow does nothing

Checked the 3 fuses under the computer control area of the engine, and the main 90amp on the back area.

No beeps from the key switch, no lights on the pannel, no gauges activate

Everything on the house batterys work

Engine must have power going to it since the trim button works thats attached to cowl

HELP PLEASE!!!

Thanks!!!

Sounds like you either have no power gettin to your key switch or the key switch is bad.

From the 10 amp fuse, follow the white/black lead through its various connectors to the key switch. Check for 12v along the way. It should be there all the time. It takes 12v to the key switch, then the switch operates the gauges and the main power relay on the engine. Then you hear the beeps and see the lights for 2 seconds. ....and the engine will crank, when you turn the key switch to start. The White/black lead also provides power to the trim switch on your shifter. The trim switch on the motor gets its power from elsewhere on the motor.

Check especially the 14 pin round connector on the front of the engine. The pins sometime come out or break. Also, if your boat previously had an Evinrude or Mercury before the 130 and the other manufacture's key switch and controls were reused, there is a wiring harness adapter near the engine, which sometimes has internal lead problems.

A simple 12v test light is all you need to do the testing.

If you have an owner's manual, the wiring diagram is at the back of the manual. If you do not have one, download one for free from Honda. http://marine.honda.com/pdf/manuals/31ZW5606.pdf

Basically...see if the 12v is leaving the motor, then see if it is getting to the key switch. The color code will stay the same, unless there is a wiring harness adapter.

Happy hunting.

Im getting 9.x volts on that wire (white/black) in the console and 12.5 on the fuse, so I think I have a dirty/bad connection

Will investigate more tomorrow, If the ECU was bad, would that cause all the stuff not to activate with the mey switch, Im unsure of the 9.x volt reading at the console, it may actually be 12v I need to dubble check it, but there is 12v at the 14pin

If the ECU is bad, then the warning lights and warning horn would not work properly or at all. It may be possible for the main relay to shunt down the voltage if it were bad, however, you would also not get the 12v at the 14 pin connector.

If you are checking the voltage with the key in the off position and not getting the 12v at the keyswitch, try disconnecting the keyswitch and see if there is a change. The keyswitch has a ground wire in it and if there is corrosion inside the keyswitch, that could shunt down the voltage. If you disconnect the keyswitch and the voltage goes to 12v, then I would check the keyswitch. The wiring diagram in the manual has a table next to the keyswitch that shows what has continuity in different keyswitch positions. If you measure continuity where it should not be, especially between the ground terminal and the battery terminal, then it is a bad switch.

If disconnecting the switch makes no difference, then it is probably not the switch.

This is a process of eliminating what is good...then that leaves...what is bad.
