Water Pump issues

I replaced the Impeller on my DF90 Suzuki. After putting the lower unit on and hooking up the muffs no water was coming out the tell.
I had heard horror stories about ruining an impeller after as little as 15 seconds i shut the engine down. I thought I may have reversed the fins
on the new impeller and pulled the lower unit again. Which way should you turn the shaft to seat the impeller, I have read both clockwise and counter-clockwise? Also did I jump the gun pulling the unit too soon, does there need to be a warm up before water comes out of the tell. Also with the lower unit off I hooked up the muffs and I saw no water in the impeller housing is this a problem.

You install the impeller on the shaft.--------Then lower the pump housing down.------------Turn the shaft the way the motor runs and push the housing down.-----That is the best and only way to install an impeller.-----------Impeller must be turning for water to go through the pump !
