suzuki 2.5 hp 4 stroke idle speed question

I just bought a new Suzuki 2.5 hp 4 stroke outboard for my NuCanoe (SOT kayak). It idles so fast that the slowest i can get the kayak to go is about 2.8 mph. I've been told this fast idle speed is normal for these small engines and they are shipped from the factory to idle that way.

I want the kayak to move slower so i can troll at about 1 to 1.5 mph. I suppose I can turn down the idle screw to slow the motor down so it will push the kayak slower when idling in gear, but will that create problems for the motor?
