Honda 2HP does not have clutch - can it be retrofitted?

I bought a used 2HP (BF2) a couple of years ago. What I didn't know was there were two of these models, and I got the one w/o a clutch so it starts with the prop spinning.

Has anyone retrofitted the optional clutch onto this model? I saw one guy ask the same question on another forum but nobody answered. I'm sure a lot of people would love this upgrade if it was reasonable. I like the outboard but starting in gear is annoying.

What is the serial number of your motor? If it is one of the originals with the slide throttle on the front of the engine, most likely the lower unit and crank will not match up.

Post the serial number and I will do a quick check to see if it is obvious. No guarantees. Most likely, it will be more that what you paid for your engine just to get the parts. Just the clutch assy itself is around $350 not to mention what other parts you may need.
