Hello, we have a 10m Steel Launch with a 2715e engine. The engine seems to be running fine. Once started the engine maintains a working temp of around 75 degrees c (about 170 f).
The engine will run for many hours without a problem but pretty much as soon as the vessel goes to idle the engine overheats and up to 6 litres of coolant is spat out into the over expansion tank??
Any ideas?

Thanks Crispin

Have you tried bleeding the air out at the bleed screw on the top of the exhaust manifold ? Also the expansion tank cap may be bad. When was the sea water pump impeller changed ?

Thanks for that Charlie, the sea water impellor is only a few months old. No I haven't bled the exhaust manifold, do you think this still may be the problem given that the overheating only happens after a long run then going to idle?
The Expansion tank cap is fairly new (although it was replaced prior to me owning the boat). Is it possible the wrong type of cap was put on to the expansion header tank?
Thanks Crispin

Crispin,
normally 7-10# cap is good. Are you using more than 50% anti freeze?? If the heat exchanger has never been flushed out it's worth doing as rust and scale build up on the copper tubes and slow heat transfer. Using more than 50% antifreeze does not transfer heat well.
