Running with vibration and power loss after switching out prop with spare, no visible damage to prop, could timing be off maybe shearing flywheel key?? Rpm down by 1000, mph down by 10mph. Thanks, John

You may (probably) have bent the prop shaft. Take off the prop and use a dial indicator to check 'runout' on the shaft. If you don't have a dial indicator in your back pocket like most people, setup a piece of wood or bricks or something that will hold the point of a pin or a sharp nail etc pointed exactly at the center of the end of the prop shaft (leave the prop on). Turn the prop slowly and see if the center of the shaft moves off the point. If it does, the shaft is bent. Pretty common issue when you hit something.

Well, guess I better order a service manual! What type of job is it to replace the propeller shaft in the lower gear case? Thanks for your earlier quick reply! John

if your losing rpm etc. check the (timing first, if it's off>>) then the flywheel by pulling it off to ensure you didn't break the key. if you sheared the key the drive shaft probably spun inside the flywheel messing up the timing.

prop shaft only has .002 run out, woodruff key on flywheel fine, timing and cog belt fine, fuel pressure within specs, compression ok, computer readings ok as well. Yamaha dealer handing over to another, cant figure it out!! Anymore ideas??
